Tactical Flashlight for Self Defense

Friday: May 31, 2019    6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Instruction by: Brent Matsuda

There is a misconception that a weapon will save you or discourage an assailant from attacking (e.g., knife, pepper spray, gun).

Reality

  1. In many places, Canada included, carrying a weapon, such as a knife, for self defense, is illegal.
  2. In an attack situation, weapon-carry requires rapid deployment, knowledge of use, willingness to use, and defense against it if it is turned against you.
  3. If you draw a weapon, the situation has escalated to the point where physical harm is imminent with a high risk of serious injury and you must be prepared to deal with the situation now at hand.

Safest/Low Risk legal “tool” to carry: Pocket Tactical Flashlight

Why?

  • Can be openly carried in hand.
  • Legal carry-on for flying.
  • Practical and safe (e.g., illumination when walking); clearing darkened areas prior to entry
  • In the case of an attack, for blinding and use as impact weapon.

Goals of this Training

  • Learn how to use a tactical flashlight as a precautionary safety tool (where, when, and how to deploy)
  • Learn how to clear an area for safe passage
  • Learn how to perceive (enhance awareness) & neutralize a potential threat
  • Learn how to use as a self defense weapon against a violent attack

Topics to be Covered:

  • Types of tactical flashlights (lumens, switches, modes, etc.); Pros & Cons
  • When to illuminate vs When to strike
  • How to light, how to strike
