Welcome to Warrior Zen Martial Arts

The name of our school, “Warrior Zen” is in reference to the focused, trance-like state a warrior enters during a “moment of truth”, be it fighting during a life or death situation, or some other form of struggle, combat, crisis, or simply rising to a challenge.

Athletes liken it to “being in the zone"

However, to a martial artist and warrior, it is a meditative state that unifies the mind & body to act in harmony as a result of their training, not just a physical skill that diminishes with time and age.

For mastering any skill as an “art” will enhance your life for as long as you breath whereas learning and continually executing a physical skill to a high level of proficiency and efficiency will eventually diminish with age. The key to it, like everything in life, is balance.

This is what we try to achieve at Warrior Zen Martial Arts. Learning self defense skills that are continually evolving and are applicable to today’s world while retaining the cultural understanding and respect of an art’s origins and those who have shared it with us.

At Warrior Zen Martial Arts we strive to expose students to the fundamentals of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) as well as other martial arts that complement it. This includes various other martial arts that flow with it, particularly those of SE Asian origin.

The program is open to all levels of ability and prior experience is not necessary. For those already well-versed in martial arts, JKD offers principles that can be applied to any system or style; many instructors in JKD actually hold rankings or black belts in other styles.

Jeet Kune Do

Emphasizes the “ranges of combat”. Students are taught to confidently and with ease “flow” from long distance,”kicking-range”, to middle distance, “hand-range”, to close quarter, “trapping & grappling range”.

Warrior Zen Martial Art classes enable students to enhance their natural attributes, such as coordination, timing, speed, endurance, strength and agility, using innovative teaching and training methods.

Every style has something to offer

It is up to the student to decide what works for him/her, and disregard that which does not work for them. Our approach at Warrior Zen is to expose the student to various systems outside of the traditional schools of training so that they can learn to develop or refine confidence in their ability to defend themselves and others should the need arise, in an efficient, practical manner applicable to today’s ever-changing society.

By being exposed and open-minded to the origins of various martial arts, cultural appreciation will help to enhance cultural understanding and acceptance in an ever-growing multi-cultural society thus offsetting racial bigotry that often persists.

Anything that helps to overcome this will be beneficial, and getting fit and learning self defense along the way is a great bonus!
